CoServ Charitable Foundation donates $18,500 grant to The American Red Cross Denton Branch

The CoServ Charitable Foundation (CCF) provided an $18,500 grant for renovation of a new office location for the Denton Branch of the American Red Cross (ARC). With painting and cabinetry projects well underway, ARC Denton Branch Manager Jim Durham anticipates that the office will celebrate its grand opening at the end of October or in early November.

Bella Bonner, ARC Development Associate states, “The new office space will offer improved workspace for staff and volunteers, a classroom for training, and more importantly, increased storage for our preparedness and relief supplies. A rapidly growing Denton County population triggers a rising demand for ARC disaster services, and between 2004 and 2006, the number of disaster incidents in the county rose by 52 percent.  Since July 2006, 287 persons received assistance from the Denton Branch ARC due to a home fire, flooding incident, tornado or high wind.”

Dennis Engelke, CCF Grants Committee member proudly explained, “The Denton Branch of the ARC serves 32 communities and an area of 944 square miles.  The CoServ Charitable Foundation grant will increase the organization’s ability to help with disaster relief and military services as well as teach water safety, first aid, CPR and safety classes.”

CCF was founded in 2004, and the ARC grant raised the foundation’s “to-date” donations and grants to over $1,019,000 to support social, charitable and civic programs in the community. These contributions are examples of how “Operation Roundup®” dollars are used. Through this initiative, participating members’ and customers’ monthly CoServ bills are rounded up to the nearest dollar, and the extra change is used by the foundation.
