The CoServ Charitable Foundation recently approved a $2,389.85 grant for the United Way of Denton County (UWDC), an organization that collaborates with 25 non-profit agencies in Denton County to provide funds and support to meet the growing needs of the community.
United Way of Denton County believes that in order to find new sources of funding, having current literature (such as the directories purchased by the CoServ Charitable Foundation grant) regarding grant information would offer any UWDC employee, intern or volunteer the ability and tools to quickly research the best possible funding sources for a particular project, agency, or program support.
Denton County is the fourth fastest growing area in the state of Texas. According to Claritas.com, 43 percent of Denton County households make less than $34,999. Now, more than ever, individuals and families are seeking out the resources of local non-profits to help make ends meet. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, in the last five years, Denton County has added approximately 200,000 more people to its population. Due to this increase, UWDC has recognized the need for additional funding in all areas of programs and agency support, and by actively purchasing these helpful resources, not only will UWDC increase the resources available to UW employees, interns and volunteers, but it will also:
· increase the resources available for their partner agencies
· increase the amount of funding they receive
· increase the number of clients that can be served
These directories will stay onsite at the UWDC office and will be available during business hours for anyone to come and use for free to locate potential funding for their non-profit or organization. And, CoServ Electric’s Director of Member and Employee Relations Dennis Engelke teaches two-day workshops to educate and provide resources to representatives from non-profit organizations and other local citizens seeking to develop skills in applying for funding from corporate and private foundations. The workshops are sponsored by CoServ Electric, and topics include:
- tapping into private foundation funding
- grant research and preparation
- basic principles of proposal writing
- identifying funding sources
For information on upcoming workshops, contact Dennis at dengelke@coserv.com or 940 321-7828.
