CCF purchases 3-month food supply for Sanger food pantry

The CoServ Charitable Foundation recently approved a $5,000 grant that will purchase food for the StorageHouse Community Food Pantry in Sanger, Texas.

Currently, food is purchased in bulk at $.65 per pound. On an average week, the Pantry buys 2,000 pounds. They also spend $75 on gas per week (out of pocket), going to and from the Tarrant County Food Bank where StorageHouse currently gets their food. Every week for the last four years, the Pantry has been serving food to the community and feeding nearly 100 families in need at a cost of about $8-$10 a week per family.

Secretary Donna Adkins can remember one very important person who has benefited from the Pantry’s services. “Missy was just 18-years-old when she came to the Pantry. She had just gotten out of an abusive relationship and could not support herself or her baby. Our services helped her find an apartment and the community helped pay for four months rent,” said Adkins. “I saw her just the other day and was astonished at how well she was doing. She thanked me for everything the Pantry did for her and explained that without that help, she would have had to give her baby up. Now she holds a job as a manager, is going to school, is married and just had another child.”

The CoServ Charitable Foundation grant money will support a 3-month supply of food for families, like Missy’s, in Sanger and surrounding areas.
