CCF supports Justin Volunteer

The CoServ Charitable Foundation (CCF) recently awarded a $10,691 grant for the purchase of a Stryker Power-Pro XT Ambulance Cot (hydraulic lift) for the Justin Volunteer Fire Department’s (VFD’s) medical emergency response calls.

The grant, made possible through CoServ members’, customers’ and employees’ donations to Operation Roundup®, was the first ever presented to the Justin Volunteer Fire Department. Justin’s Emergency Medical Services Chief Fred Bowles stated, “Obesity is on the increase in America, resulting in more overweight patients being lifted by medical staff. An estimated 65 percent of workers compensation claims in emergency medical services result from back injury. A two-person ambulance crew with the Stryker cot can transport patients more quickly by not having to wait for additional staff to arrive to participate in the preparation of patients for transport.”

Curtis Tally, a CoServ board member and a proud, lifelong Justin resident commented, “The acquisition of this equipment will allow the Justin VFD to fulfill its mission of providing safe, efficient and quality service to the citizens of the City of Justin and the surrounding rural communities within the 80 square miles the department services. Time is of the essence when responding to medical emergencies, and this equipment could mean the difference of precious minutes when transporting a patient to a medical facility. And, the equipment allows the Justin VFD to ensure a safe working environment for its emergency personnel.”

Since its inception in 2004, the CoServ Charitable Foundation has donated more than $1,794,866 to 88 different projects in 33 communities to support social, charitable and civic programs in the community. The Justin VFD grant is just one example of how Operation Roundup dollars are used. Through this initiative, participating members’ and customers’ monthly CoServ bills are rounded up to the nearest dollar, and every penny of the extra change is donated to the community. CoServ employees also support the fund through voluntary payroll deduction.
