The CoServ Charitable Foundation (CCF) recently provided a grant of $7,500 to Interfaith Ministries of Denton. The donation will be used to support The Apple Tree Project, which provides back-to-school clothes and school supplies for economically disadvantaged children.
Interfaith Ministries is a community-based assistance agency which provides short-term financial assistance to Denton families. Assistance is coordinated with other agencies and is targeted to promote client self-sufficiency. Created by Interfaith Ministries, the Apple Tree Project’s mission is to reduce hardship on families by providing economically disadvantaged children with essential items needed in order to start off the school year on a competitive level with their peers.
“With over 40 percent of children in the Denton ISD needing assistance with school supplies, it is only through the generosity of organizations such as the CoServ Charitable Foundation that the needs of these children will be met,” Ann Pape, Outreach and Development Associate, Interfaith Ministries of Denton said. “Our goal is to serve 1,000 kids in 2009.”
Interfaith Ministries believes that with the community’s investment and support, a child’s success in education can help break the cycle of poverty. By providing funds to assist in The Apple Tree Project, the CoServ Charitable Foundation aims to provide help to those children in the communities we serve.
“The Apple Tree Project helps the economic disadvantage by providing clothes, backpacks, shoes and school supplies for children,” Dennis Engelke, CCF Executive Director said. “The result is improved self-esteem and dignity beginning on the first day of a new school year.”
At CoServ, we care about our communities. Created in 2004, and since its inception, CCF has contributed more than $1.8 million to 92 different organizations in 34 communities. The Foundation was created as a cooperative initiative to improve the quality of life for residents within our communities, and by a desire among CoServ’s employees to be more directly involved in how CoServ gives back to the community. The majority of our funding comes from our members and customers and from employee payroll donations, raffles and fundraisers, like the CCF Golf Tournament.
