CoServ grant helps Boy Scout troop

More than 60 Frisco Boy Scouts are now packing for summer camp, in spite of thieves who nearly spoiled the plans by stealing the Scouts’ trailer and the expensive equipment inside. In response to the story, the CoServ Charitable Foundation issued an emergency grant of $8,000 to help replace the trailer and camping gear. This will meet many of the Scouts’ long-term needs.

“When we first discovered the trailer was missing, I was angry. All that work and effort were long gone,” said Joe Koester, committee chair for Troop 216. “But now, thanks to the donation, we can continue our camping program. We won’t have to start over.”

Cheryl Pulley, mother of a Scout, said, “It’s nice to know there are companies that support organizations in the community. I’m a CoServ member, and now I realize that my Operation Roundup® dollars have value and support worthy programs. I’m grateful that our Scouts are smiling again!”

Dennis Engelke, grants committee member of the CoServ Charitable Foundation, said the generosity of CoServ members, customers and employees made the grant possible. Through Operation Roundup, participating members’ and customers’ monthly CoServ bills are rounded up to the nearest dollar, and the extra change is used by the foundation. Some employees also regularly donate to the foundation through a payroll deduction program.

Since its inception in 2004, the CoServ Charitable Foundation has donated more than $830,000 in grants to support social, charitable and civic programs in the community. These contributions are examples of how Operation Roundup dollars are used.

CoServ Electric, an electric cooperative headquartered in Corinth, serves approximately 115,000 member-owners by providing electric service through more than 133,000 meters in parts of six counties of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. CoServ Gas services more than 54,000 gas meters in four counties. CoServ’s vision is to be trusted to consistently exceed members' and customers’ expectations for safety, reliability, service, value and community support.
